we were left out of fraggle rock

Posted : 17 years, 3 months ago on 21 December 2006 09:17 (A review of Fraggle Rock)

We didn't have cable until I was a teenager, so we'd only get to check this out at our friend's houses. It was entertaining and was so different from Sesame Street that we wanted more...

just some good 'ol boys.

Posted : 17 years, 3 months ago on 21 December 2006 09:13 (A review of The Dukes of Hazzard )

This was Friday nights growing up. We'd play outside until it was almost dark, then come in, get cleaned up, and watch the Dukes of Hazzard. Our parents knew this was even more of a bargaining chip than dessert, and we were on our best behavior to be sure we could watch it.

It's great watching again after 15+ years, and catching all the jokes we missed because we didn't get them...

if only it could happen

Posted : 17 years, 3 months ago on 21 December 2006 08:53 (A review of Timeline)

This is another book that I listened to as an audiobook first, then picked up to "really" read. I thought it would make a great movie, then found out that one was already made. That will be three ways in which I can try this book out. Not sure how the movie is, but I'm willing to find out.

not a grammar snob, but...

Posted : 17 years, 3 months ago on 21 December 2006 08:50 (A review of Crazy English)

I liked this book, because I like learning about languages. Does that make me weird? Yes, it probably does. If you want to get a better handle on English, you should check this out.

one of his stranger works

Posted : 17 years, 3 months ago on 21 December 2006 08:45 (A review of The Big U)

It's a good book, and one of Neal Stephenson's stranger works. There's something in the way he leads you along the story that draws you in, and just as you're thinking that it's a pretty straightforward sci-fi book, BAM! You're reading about the giant... well, you'll have to read about it.

read it in high school, still liked it

Posted : 17 years, 3 months ago on 21 December 2006 08:42 (A review of To Kill a Mockingbird)

This is one of the few books that I "had to" read in school that I liked. It's a fast read and I want to get a copy of it to re-read. Maybe I'll pick up the movie too...

second foray into gibson

Posted : 17 years, 3 months ago on 21 December 2006 08:19 (A review of Neuromancer)

This was my second William Gibson book (after 'Pattern Recognition'), and I actually listened to it as an audiobook first (I have a long work commute). I'm now hooked, and I can't wait to read more of his stuff...

fear and awesomeness

Posted : 17 years, 3 months ago on 21 December 2006 08:11 (A review of Prey)

I like that there's a chance that this could be happening, but at the same time, I'm glad to know it's a work of fiction. This could easily be made into a movie (much like a lot of his books).

grew up with tom baker as the Dr.

Posted : 17 years, 3 months ago on 21 December 2006 07:56 (A review of Doctor Who)

It was great stuff and still is, even with the cheesy special effects.

As a kid, the only Dr. Who I knew of was Tom baker. I knew that he was a time lord, I knew there were others before him and would be others after him, but Tom was the main guy for most of my younger years.

"must build homes..."

Posted : 17 years, 3 months ago on 21 December 2006 03:33 (A review of Black & White)

If you can handle hearing people complain about needing homes (whiners!), then you'll really enjoy this game. I thought it was great, and was challenging enough to keep it from being boring, especially since you can play the benevolent or a malicious god...
